Review of Visa Application Charges

The Australian Government has announced a review of its border related fees, charges and taxes, which includes visa application charges (VAC).  The result of the review is expected to be announced in May 2015, as part of the Australian Government Budget.

There have been significant increases in visa application charges in recent years:

– sponsored skilled visas and working holiday visa charges have more than doubled

– partner visa charges have doubled

– skilled graduate visa charges have increased by over 500%.

The review will focus on the outcome of these increased charges.

The Government has issued a discussion paper and invited submissions by 31 October 2014.  AUSA Migration expects that the Migration Institute of Australia (MIA) will make a submission addressing the issue of visa application charges.
